Only in Virginia do we get out of school for ice one day and hit 65 degrees another day in the same week... Keep the sunshine coming!
Here at Boulevard, we are rolling with our new construction and can use all the clear, sunny days January will give us. In case you've driven by and wondered what's been going on, let me fill you in on December and January progress!
On December 23, 2017 we closed our doors at our 33,000 square foot greenhouse at 2100 Ruffin Mill Rd for the holidays and for the last time. The greenhouse and the adjacent field were sold to Carter Myers Automotive previously in the year, as they prepare to take over the building for car collision repair and detailing sometime mid 2018.

Once a deal was made, we started plans to continue business on the same piece of property. Drawings were created as a family vision and ultimately took us back to a scene we knew for many years on the Boulevard.
Who remembers this?
The greenhouse itself is a much more sustainable size, connecting to a main retail building and offering paved walkways out into an outdoor shopping space. We broke ground early in the Fall, halted construction during our pumpkin patch season, and resumed in early December. Both the greenhouse structure and the building are pre-fab structures with fairly quick erection times. Check out these greenhouse photos, showing the building going up in only 1 week!
The week before Christmas, we poured the foundation for the connecting building and a few days later, the steel beams started to make their way up. We're grateful for a hardworking contractor and construction team that have been working diligently into the colder temperatures. Once the snow fell, we were all forced to stay indoors for a couple days to allow for the slab and equipment to thaw out. We're taking full advantage of the warm days this week to make up time!

Our timeline for this transition puts us in our new building sometime between Valentine's Day and March 1, weather permitting. During this time, we are operating out of our production greenhouses (directly behind our former greenhouse), if you need to find us. We're happy to help over the phone and online with orders, and still have a healthy supply of winter products for your birds and garden. Please reach out to us at 526-4000, or stop by for a visit to see what's growing on!
Thanks for the continued support, see you soon!
